Aircheck: Radio Stories
AIRCHECK is a podcast about radio's personality from radio personalities. Whether you’re in the radio industry yourself, or have just have a love for the medium, each episode will take you backstage, in the studio and on the air at some of biggest radio stations in the country. You’ll live vicariously through radio stories and celebrity interviews shared by those who were privileged to have these opportunities. Some have also shared the actual audio from those moments frozen in time.
For those who find themselves the result of “reduction in force” you’ll appreciate the words of wisdom and advice from some of the radio industries best; Program Directors, General Managers, Consultants, Owners, Trade Journalists and the Air Personalities themselves who have successfully applied their skillset elsewhere.

Barry Scott: The Voice Behind 'The Lost 45s' – Preserving 70s & 80s Pop Culture (Pt 3)
(Pt 3 of 4) Barry Scott is the host of Radio specialty show, “The Lost 45s.” “The Lost 45s” is home to America’s Largest Classic Hits Music & Interview Library with Barry Scott as curator of charted records that no longer receive adequate airplay. The daily and weekly programs have been in national syndication since 1993, heard in over 60 markets. “The Lost 45s” has America’s largest library of over 1,000 EXCLUSIVE recording artist interviews.
Barry is also an author. His first book is titled, “We Had Joy, We Had Fun,” published by Faber & Faber, and is an international bestseller. “The Lost 45s” has been recognized by many national publications, including Billboard, Radio and Records, Rolling Stone, Spin and the New York Daily News. Barry Scott has appeared on VH-1’s “Behind The Music,” CNN, “Good Morning America,” “Entertainment Tonight” and Howard Stern. He is recognized nationally as one of the foremost authorities on pop music.
Barry’s radio career started at age 5 in his bedroom, announcing records, news and weather. He often laments the existence of a cassette tape of one such show, secretly recorded by his father. Barry’s Middle School music teacher encouraged him to attempt a broadcasting career.
“The Lost 45s” began at Emerson College in 1981.
In part three of this four part AIRCHECK session, Barry recounts his first book, We Had Joy, We Had Fun.” He also talks about the challenges of licensing music for a CD collection he was released We also find out how many 45’s Barry actually owns, along with his horror stories of cueing up and playing vinyl records. There’s also the story when Barry didn’t know a record was skipping on the air as he went to the bathroom. Plus he shares how saying the word erection on the air almost lost him his job.
